London

Big Ben, Double Decker bus and punk rocker (well not quite) Cant get much more 'London' than that!
London Tower Bridge
Old double decker bus

Some quick shots of typical London scenes.

We headed down to London last weekend for my Birthday.
We caught a 7:00 a.m EasyJet flight from Edinburgh airport to Luton and spent both days exploring and trying to fit in as much as we could.
We stayed in the Docklands area in some really nice accommodation (a large 4 star apartment called Marlin Docklands) but it was a bit out of the city and not in a great area. Didn't help that part of the Jubilee Line underground was not operating and the DLR Light rail system was also out of action!
Highlights of the trip would be the London Eye, London Tower Bridge, Hyde Park and cucumber sandwiches with the Queen.

Snow in Edinburgh

Last week, there was a lot of snow around Edinburgh. These photos were taken on the walk to work one day, when the snow was actually falling. On another morning, there was over 2 inches of snow on the ground as we walked to work. People who have lived in Edinburgh for some time, say its the most snow that they've seen in Edinburgh for a long time.

The photo above is from one of the windows at Kirsty's work.

Snow in Scotland

Last week, Kirsty had to go to Preston for work. Preston is in the North West of England. Its not the greatest place to visit, as its one of the most depressed areas in England, but the train trip between Edinburgh and Preston was spectacular. It took about two hours, and the scenery was amazing due to the amount of snow around. These photos are not the best quality as they were taken from the train, but you get the idea.

Let it snow

Outside our apartment building

At the park behind our apartment building.

After a relaxing sunday evening watching a movie, we went and played in the snow at 10:30 p.m as it had been coming down a fair bit.
Had great fun throwing snowballs and had a laugh watching some people trying to build a snowman only to have their dog destroy it.
Also had a laugh when having a snowball fight with Kirsty when a lady popped her head out of her apartment to offer Kirsty encouragement..I threw a snowball up at her! : )

Snow

You can see the snow falling in this photo. The Scots call this "Chucking it down".

It's snowing!!!

The picture above is taken looking out to the carpark from my work (Jewel and Esk College) at our Midlothian campus which is near Dalkeith (45 minutes bus ride away from Princes Street in Edinburgh).
Below: Watch your step! Slippery stuff.
Thick snow on cars outside my mate Karl's place in Colinton (about a 15 minute bus ride from Princes Street in Edinburgh).
You may have seen in the news recently that the UK has been in the midst of a cold snap thanks to cold air coming down from Russia mixing with wet weather from France.
It is better when it is snowing than when it has been frosty and wet as it is easier to walk in the snow. Have to be real careful not to slip on the ice...scary stuff.
I get a fantastic view of a range of hills called the Pentlands from our Midlothian campus. Will take the camera in and get some shots of it tomorrow.
Supposed to be more snow coming tomorrow. Was supposed to be the coldest day of the week today according to the forecasters but they really got it wrong..was quite a nice day.
PS: Please excuse the quality of these photos..they were taken with my cell phone camera.
Dont forget you can enlarge any of the photos in the blog by clicking on them.
