England - The Lakes District II

Day 2:
We visited a nice wee town called Ambleside (and had a fair walk as we misjudged how far from the town we had parked). Every second shop in these small towns specialises in selling outdoor adventure gear.
We then went on a walk up a steep mountain called The Great Langdale. Was a fantastic view and well worth it.
We had lunch (Cumberland sausage again) at a nice pub in Coniston.
After lunch we went to Grizedale Forest and did another walk. Was quite an easy walk through a nice forest with lots of art installations/sculptures placed randomly through the forest.
We finished our day by visiting Ulswater lake which was really nice. It is a very popular lake and is known for its steam boat trips.

England - The Lakes District

Day 1: We picked up our rental car (Peugeot 207) early on Saturday morning and headed off to the beautiful Lakes District in England. After stopping for coffee at Lockerbie, we took a leisurly drive to the Lakes District (about 3 hours drive). We visited Castelrigg Stone Circle which are 48 large stones that are between 3000-4000 years old. No one actually knows what the stones were used for or represent.
From there we visited Keswick and took a walk around Derwent Water (one of the most popular lakes in this area and quite stunning). Then it was on to Grasmere. Grasmere is a lovely wee town with lots of slate buildings. It is famous for Sarah Nelson's Gingerbread shop. We bought some and it was very good. They use the same recipe that they have been using since 1854!
We then enjoyed a nice drive to Bowness and had a look around the shopping centre and went for a walk along the waterfront.
Last stop for the day was Windermere where we were staying in a B&B (Autumn Leaves).
We settled in and then went for a pint at a local pub and then had Cumberland Sausages for dinner at another pub.

London - General

Westminster Palace: a good place to go if you want to raise taxes.
Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera: 522bhp V10. Not so subtle in bright orange!
Man skiing through Hyde Park!
The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. The palace is owned by the British state. It is not the monarch's personal property unlike Sandringham House and Balmoral Castle. However we were still not allowed in, even though we have paid an exhorbitant amount of money to apply for our Visa's!
