Newcastle II

The Sage Gateshead. This futuristic building is a musical events centre.
The Gateshead Millenium bridge closing to allow its foot passengars back on.
We generally walked around taking in the scenes in Newcastle. After checking out the waterside including the famous Sunday Market we headed to a pub for lunch.
Newcastle is known for it's nightlife but some of the streets were pretty shabby/dirty in the light of day.
We had a look at the street that we had read to be the 'best street in England' but it was just a normal street with nothing to distinguish it from any other street in a shopping area.
Had a look around the shops and would have gone to the Great North Museum but it is not open yet. It opens in a couple of days time. They spent something like £130,000,000 on the museum!
Had a look at the Laing Art Gallery and pretended we were cultured. That was pretty much the day. Went to a pub for a relaxing beer before heading back to the train station.

Newcastle

Gateshead Millennium bridge.
The Tyne bridge.
We took a train down to Newcastle yesterday. Took about 1 and a half hours on the high speed train.
Enjoyed out time down there. Lots of interesting bridges and buildings.
We got to the Gateshead Millennium bridge just as it was opening/lifting. Quite spectacular. It opens on hinges once a day to let ships through. As soon as it closed again we were able to walk over it. The bridge actually moves quite a bit when it has lots of tourists on it. If you look in the second photo of the Gateshead Millennium bridge, you can see the yellow hinges.
