Salzburg Austria

On Easter Sunday we took the train from Munich to Salzburg. Its a two hour train trip again, through more countryside, little villages and past some amazing alps.

Salzbpurg is the 4th largest city in Austria and is famous for being the city in which Mozart was born, and the Sound of Music was filmed in. The old town area is a world heritage site.

The photo below shows the old town. On the top of the hill is the fortress called Hohensalzburg Castle. Construction of it began in 1077. It has only ever come under seige once, and was never taken.

Above is Schloss Mirabell. It was built ion 1606 and has some amazing gardens. A number of scenes from the Sound of Music were filmed here.

The buildings below were built at the bottom of a sheer cliff. The buildings say they wre built in the 1400's (although we're not quite convinced!)
